Several states are bracing for severe winter weather this weekend as forecasters from the NWS issue warnings for snow and ice.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch, with 5 to 10 inches of snow possible in portions of Northeast Ohio. The watch runs from 7 p.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Tuesday. The watch is for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Summit and Trumbull counties.
The National Weather Service is forecasting 7 to 15 inches of snow for the Chicago area through Tuesday evening, but snow levels could vary by location and proximity to the lake.
Forecasters warned of high rates of snowfall per hour, low visibility and potentially hazardous road conditions during the snowfall.
The storm was one of the strongest to ever form in the Atlantic, with winds reaching 185 mph shortly before making landfall in Jamaica.
Jamaican officials describe harrowing scenes across the island, with more than 32 deaths and 25 communities still marooned.
